Hike adventure Lofoten

Experience some of the best hikes, most interesting culture, fishing villages, and authentic accommodations in this level 2 adventure to Lofoten! Welcome to one of Norway's most amazing natural wonders.

The beautiful archipelago of Lofoten is recognised by an extraordinary dramatic landscape, with small authentic fishing villages situated just underneath the jagged peaks. Most of the communities have less than 1000 inhabitants, and some of them only a couple of hundreds. The nature and culture in Lofoten is the perfect place for hikers and explorers. On this guided adventure in Lofoten, you will experience beautiful hikes with both modern and authentic accommodation. On one of the days, you can join the horseback riding on one of Lofoten's beautiful beaches, and if the weather allows, we will experience the midnight sun from one of the best viewpoints there is.

Your adventure starts in Bodø, Northern Norway. Hurtigruten are said to be the most beautiful sea voyage in the whole world, and it is Hurtigruten that will begin your adventure in Lofoten. After your landing in the cosy village of Stamsund in Lofoten, you will go to Lofoten Links. From your high standard lodges, you will explore the area around, and hopefully top the adventure with a midnight sun adventure from the top of the mountain Hoven.

In the coming days, you will do a coastal hike between the beautiful beach Unstad, and the tiny village of Eggum. The famous walk is a real treat for exploring souls, a combination of beautiful nature, award-winning art, and fun hiking makes this a must do adventure in Lofoten. Another experience that you will do that earns its right to be called must-do in Lofoten, is a visit to the authentic and lively fishing village of Henningsvær. In the evening, you will enjoy the view of Henningsvær from the top of Festvågtind - in good weather, and the picture is just stunning.

For many, our last days in Lofoten will be extra special. If you have an urge for unique accommodations and cultural curiosity, you should look forward to your night in the lighthouse at Skrova. The old tower is one of the most spectacular accommodations in all of Lofoten, and Norway With your private boat, you will be brought out to a place that makes people travel far to experience it.

Level 2 out of 5. Please read more about our level of difficulty here. The mountains in Lofoten are a bit steep. You should expect some scrambling and the path is sometimes rocky and a bit slippery (if it rains). You should have some hiking experience from similar conditions. Good fitness level and some hiking experience are also fine.

In clear weather, the view from the lodges is simply beautiful. Our breakfast is enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere, and when we are ready, you can join the optional horseback riding, otherwise, the guide will take you on a hike to a mountain or a viewpoint in the area. In the evening a real adventure awaits, as your guide will take you with on a hike to the spectacular mountain Hoven. Hoven means hoof in Norwegian, and the characteristic mountain looks very much like the name it's given. Hoven is one of out few mountains that do not connect to other mountains. Since the mountain stands alone, you will have a spectacular opportunity to experience the midnight sun and sea combined. If the weather allows, you will be up on Hoven on a midnight sun adventure like no other.

One of Lofotens most beautiful beaches are located 45 minutes south of Lofoten Links. In good weather, the beach is a lovely hangout, and we will enjoy a nice cup of coffee from the local shop before our hike starts. The coastal walk between Unstad and Eggum are one of our absolute favourites here at Hvitserk. The length of the trip is not outstanding by any means, but the 9-kilometre hike is a true adventure. Some parts of the trail can feel a bit exposed, the ocean view is second to none, during the hike you will encounter the famous sculptures in Artscape Norland, and when you are done, you find yourselves situated in the tiny, yet cosy, village of Eggum.

This is one of the most famous walks in Lofoten. Unstad is a famous surfing beach, and in Eggum you will experience the famous sculptures in Artscape Nordland. This art project has spread art and inspiration all around the beautiful nature of Northern Norway. After the hike, you will return to your accommodation at Lofoten Links. If the weather was not on our side last night, it will be possible to give the midnight sun view from the top of Hoven a new trial.

Ever heard of the village of Henningsvær?  30 minutes away from our accommodation you will find the working fishing village of Henningsvær. Henningsvær is a small group of islands situated between the impressive Mount Vågakallen and the "Lofoten Wall" and is otherwise surrounded by the sea. It was a natural hub of activity during the Lofoten Winter Fishery, and in the 1800's, the island community prospered and Henningsvær became one of the most prominent fishing villages in Lofoten. Unlike many other fishing villages, the population of Henningsvær has remained stable in recent years, and there are still over 500 people living there. The islands were not connected to the rest of Lofoten by bridges until 1981, a fact that probably helped save the community from the contemporary style of architecture with its preference for concrete blocks, that otherwise left its mark on just about all other Norwegian towns and villages in the 60's and 70's. Such a combination of an active, vibrant environment and well-preserved architecture makes Henningsvær something quite unique.

Our morning is spent by having some free time to walk about this atmospheric fishing village and its beautiful harbour. In the afternoon, we will go right outside of the fishing village and hike up to the nearest located mountain called Festvågtind. Many of the famous pictures taken by Henningsvær are from here, so look forward to some nice views and photography! In the afternoon, we will drive 30 minutes to Svolvær and walk on board the ferry to the small and beautiful island of Skrova. Skrova has about 250 inhabitants, and when we have entered the island, you will be brought by a private boat out to the Skrova Lighthouse.

Lofoten is by any means unique in itself, and the only thing that can finish the touch is an overnight stay at this unique lighthouse accommodation. People go far, and book long in advance for such opportunities, so this is something to look forward to!

After a healthy breakfast at the lighthouse, you will get transported back to the main island of Skrova. Høgskrova is the name of the highest mountain on the Skrova-Island. From the top, you can one side see the famous Lofoten wall that you have been hiking on earlier,  and on the other, you have a great view of spectacular mountains on the mainland.

After our hike, the private boat will take us back to the lighthouse for an extra nice farewell-dinner.

Some people say that the impressive Lofoten wall and the beautiful islands are even better looking from the eastern part of the Vestfjorden. Now it’s time to find out – as we board the express boat in the early morning for a three hours boat ride through the fantastic landscape to Bodø. On the ferry, you will have time to discuss your previous adventures with new friends, and maybe also plan future adventures with those you have met.

Early morning departure with ferry to Bodø (around 0700 am) – arrival in Bodø at 10 am – possible to return this day or contact us for advice on what to do in Bodø.
